What does Rinnai Tankless Water Heater Error Code 10 mean?

An Error Code 10 on your Rinnai Tankless Water Heater usually means there’s a problem with the venting system. There may be debris blocking the vents or there could be an issue with how the vents were installed.

There are a few things you can do yourself to see if a simple solution will fix your Error Code 10 problem. If these options don’t work, it’s time to call a professional Rinnai tankless water heater expert at Full Stack Plumbing.

Contact us today to schedule an appointment with a Durham, Raleigh, Cary, Chapel Hill, Carrboro, or Pittsboro Plumber.

What to Do if Error Code 10 Shows Up on Your Rinnai Water Heater Readout

A morning of suddenly cold showers may send you running to check your Rinnai water heater. Your unit’s computer screen may show an error code, communicating to you that there’s a problem. If an Error Code 10 appears, it could just be a glitch in the pc board (circuit board). You can try turning the water heater off for a short time and then back on. This might reset the readout back to normal and allow the hot water to flow again. You should also check your ventilation system for any obvious obstructions. Bugs and other debris can sometimes be located and removed to restore the full operation of your tankless water heater. Once you’ve tried these options with no success, you should call the skilled Rinnai water heater professionals at Full Stack Plumbing. Going any further with self-repairs can void your manufacturer’s warranty. And if you don’t have plumbing experience, you could do more damage or even get yourself hurt.

Rinnai Tankless Water Heater Error Code 10 Issues

Your Full Stack Plumbing expert checks several potential issues for you. An Error 10 Code often flashes when there’s something wrong with the ventilation system running from a Rinnai tankless water heater. But there are other reasons you might see this error message. These are a few of the most common issues that can cause a tankless water heater to shut down:
  • Ventilation System Blockage – Debris can build in vent/intake pipes. Build-up can also affect a burner manifold.
  • Venting Improper Installation – Venting ducts may not fit together the right way. Sealant may have been used improperly.
  • Circuit Board Malfunction — A problem with the circuit board that runs the water heater could be faulty. A dip switch may be left on the wrong setting.
  • Improper Manifold Settings – Manifolds can regulate the amount of gas or water that flows in or out of your tankless unit. A problem can lead to a system shutdown and an error code.
These are just a few of the issues that your plumber will be checking. Full Stack Plumbers will look for the simplest and easiest solution first. We don’t want to charge our customers for repairs and parts they don’t need. However, if the issue is a bigger problem, we will discuss the solution with you and be ready to take on a larger repair project.

Super friendly and informative service. Had to wait a bit, but since it wasn't an emergency situation, it was only a mild inconvenience and not their fault. Busy is good.

Jeff was a huge factor in me not walking away from Full Stack ever entering my home again for any project both plumbing and gas related. I have a couple of gas related issues coming up involving my stove and exterior grill. He and JJ were a delight to deal with. If I had the ability to do my rating over again for last week's visits I would drop my satisfaction level by several points. Unfortunately, I only got a survey for the first visit.Due to my feeling of trust with Jeff, I had him check our water pressure and believed him when he recommended that we replace the pressure gage.Jeff and JJ are assets to your company. In the future I will only hire your company if Jeff does the work.

I can’t say enough good things about Ben and John. Fantastic, laid-back (in a good way) customer service. Ben was quick and efficient with my time and theirs. He was able to quickly diagnose the issue with my shower, build an access portal and fix the problem. He also explained and showed me how my whole house water filtration system works. He truly went above and beyond. I was also very satisfied by the dispatch woman who listened to my issue. She was cordial and got me scheduled right away - even called me when they had an opening! I would absolutely recommend Full Stack to any of my friends and neighbors. I don’t like when companies try to upsell you - FS doesn’t do that, and I am so appreciative…. Especially as another company came out and spent 2 hours looking at my whole house before ever looking at the issue I called them about!
